Book Cover Concept Design Marathon #2

Sept 1st, 2008

After selecting a few classic American novels from the past in the first part of my cover design explorations, I decided to take a stab at a few current books. Here is the continuation of my ongoing design marathon.

This is the original book cover design of the book The Road written by Cormac McCarthy. The story follows a boy and his fathers journey to survive through a post-apocalyptic United States. After looking into this book I was surprised to see that the cover (in my opinion) could have been far stronger, given the book won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and a number of other awards/nominations (as well as being adapted for a movie, and an Oprah's Book Club book). So after digging deep into this story, I present to you my full working day of cover concepts:

This round I chose to redesign the recently popular book written by Barack Obama, The Audacity of Hope, Thoughts on reclaiming the American Dream. I chose to redesign this book because I'm interested in seeing this typical memoir book cover style redesigned to be more thought provoking.
